The singer says that the public identifies him with maleva songs and regrets the lack of dissemination of the genre in the mainstream media and the State.
Ricardo Daniel Pereyra He has been “Chiqui” in the world of tango for more than 40 years, when he was discovered in a show talent show"Great values of tango". One more summer, the singer born in Río Negro arrived at Espacio Clarín with a recital that included tangos such as "What are you going to talk about love", "For a head" and "Old times".
-Did you ever say that you find it difficult to incorporate repertoire. Do you feel that the tango audience pigeonholes the singers?
For the recital at Espacio Clarín we add some tangos, they are not very heard in my voice. Sometimes, I start to put together a repertoire and my wife tells me: "Notice that on Facebook people are asking if you are going to do‘ Follow the corso ’". It is a song that I interpret many years ago. Definitely, the public wants to hear the tangos that sound in their heads. Maybe they do pigeonhole a little, but it is still a compliment that they identify you with certain tangos.
-I guess you're not the only one that happens…
No, Not at all. Some time ago, I shared a show night with Julio Iglesias in a Viña del Mar casino. People wanted to listen to their first songs again. He had another list of subjects, to which you were adding the orders. In the end he did like 60 songs. Imagine with that race.
-In your case there is also full identification with the tangos reos, malevage, Following the bass of your voice. What tangos would you like to sing and don't you dare or think that they don't “look good” with your record?
There are many. At some point I got very hooked with Joan Manuel Serrat, the “Chango” Farías Gómez and Alberto Cortez. They are guys with very personal voices. I could do some of your songs. At first it would be nice, but it wouldn't give much more. For example, "Orange Blossom". There are four thousand better versions than I could do. It would be giving advantage. With this voice I would tear her apart (Serie).
-Maybe it will be a challenge, ¿no?
Yes, are debatable things. I also sing those other tangos because I'm cheeky. I jump into the pool, although they always accept more tangos from the maleva line.
-The program "Great values of tango" was very important and a boost at the beginning of your career. Why do you think that today there are no great spaces to spread the genre in the media?
More than forgetting, there is great indifference from the media and, especially, of the state. That hurts me more. "Great values of tango" was held by Alejandro Romay. "The Angel's Apothecary" was by Eduardo Bergara Leumann. They were private projects.
-Do you think it is the task of the State to spread it?
Good, we have a state channel, ¿no? It's easy to do. You need singers, an orchestra and dancers. Today there may be very good singers, but that doesn't assure them anything. Lack of diffusion. If you are looking for success, I would tell you not to dedicate yourself to tango.
