He does not remember if he scribbled the walls of your home, but always remembers drawing. Both drew the margins of the notebooks in math classes one day organized an art exhibition: He went to the 7 years and its first marchand It was the journalist Martin Caparros, with whom he shared the primary school in the Republic of Cuba, Palermo. With a talented lefty, Martin Malamud He later became an illustrator. Over time, He added another passion and he started taking classes tango. Two decades after having set foot for the first time La Viruta, where literally he took his first steps in the dance, se define, with humiliation, as a dancer… which draws well. And as a great connoisseur of milongas, he attends every week, He used his wits and drew.
"I resigned myself to not dance tango well, then the drawing ", says a little joke a little seriously Malamud, standing in the middle of one of the halls of the National Academy of Tango, on Avenida de Mayo 800, where during June exhibits Milongas, the sample of ten drawings. They are chosen: Cathedral, La Viruta, El Beso, Salón Canning, Club Gricel, Glorieta de Belgrano, the Centro region Leonesa, Plaza Dorrego, theater 25 May and Bar Los Laureles. Anyway, Martin is already working on others such as Parque Patricios, the Milonguita, La Nacional, Obelisk Tango and Tango Club Academy.
Made with brush and Black ink -which allows greater precision and contrast, unlike ink color, more like acuarela-, Malamud confesses to draw with India ink "is played", especially, and no previous sketch and is guided only by a mental reference: "If you are wrong, you roll sheet, is not that you can fix as happens when using other techniques such as oil or pencil. Here there is no photoshop, They are all original ", explains Martin, of 62 years, glasses and blue eyes, compenetrado hair while watching a milonguero his drawing of La Glorieta.
It is possible that habitués of these spaces are recognized somehow in the drawings of this artist, because beyond occasional invention, characters depicted actually exist: a lone man looking at the track all night and does not get anyone to dance, cancheros a group of cronies who will not stop talking, the faces of concentration couples ablest, the man who takes a whiskey and observes all, the woman who expects the cabeceen, the enjoyment of all attendees. Why, clarifies the artist, approach the world of the milongas is snuggle, first of all, a a world of passionate people.
Receiving the first drawing in the anteroom of the sample is the milonga La Catedral, perhaps work with as many details: high ceiling, casual atmosphere and box Carlos Gardel on top. Woodgrain, "A good place to start and youthful", Malamud represented the scene in which couples dance teacher in the eyes of students. Los Laureles, in an ancient corner of Barracas, He stayed with the duo High Merca, "Because their names are Altavista and Market". En Gricel, one can see a more traditional track: "It's a classic milonga, very cute, You know nothing of those who go and yet you say hello to all, there is a circumscribed affection that time ", says the artist who along with Patricia, his wife and dance partner, usually put them nicknames the characters that crosses there.
In the Plaza Dorrego, There is a climate descontracturado, own an outdoor track and where once Martin met a girl in a wheelchair who danced to perfection. And in the Theater 25 of May, your salon stands circular glazed: "Sundays in the early evening, July Dupláa -Nancy's dad, the actress- organizes a very nice neighborhood milonga. He is a divine milonguero ", Martin details, an expert at this point. In each character drawn, theImagine a little story.
But before milongas, Malamud He did other things. During years, He was devoted to 3d animation and was the first to have a study heading back in 92. He teaches a subject animation career of Image and Sound Design, Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of the UBA. illustrated books, magazines and even gave images to a book of poetry Baldomero Fernandez Moreno. It also coordinates "fingerprint", a team that made all the interactive reconstruction of five clandestine centers of dictatorship: Esma, Automotores Orletti, Campo de Mayo, Atletico and, currently, La Cacha. This material was used in trials against humanity.
After two years of work, although not full time, Malamud -what only writes with marker and still he is drawing absently as when I was in school- He also collected his illustrations of the milongas, plus some that are not on display but linked to tango, in a book that he edited –Milongas– and sell to whoever asks you. His intentions, now, It is to tour the spaces honored with their works and are exposed right there where was inspired.
