The young Argentine bandoneon player arrives from New York to premiere a work of his own composition with the legendary orchestra. He will be accompanied by the talented Spanish violinist Francisco Fullana.

The virtuoso musicians Juan Pablo Jofré and Francisco Fullana, based in New York, will be presented on Wednesday 5 June at the CCK as guests of the Juan de Dios Filiberto Argentine National Music Orchestra. This time, Jofré's work will premiere in Argentina: “Double Violin Concerto, Bandoneón, String Orchestra, Timpani and 4 Percussionists”.
Jofré and Fullana met in April 2016 in a concert they shared with the Manhattan Chamber Players in New York and shortly after they began to work together to compose this work, by commission from the Classical Music Institute of San Antonio (EE.UU.), the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra (Spain) and the Metropolis Ensemble (EE.UU.).
Born in the province of San Juan, Bandoneonist and composer Juan Pablo Jofré stands out internationally for his creations that seek to fuse tango with classical music., achieving a deep and vibrant sound. “Although this work demands a high technical level of classical musicians, To obtain a complete result of what I wanted to convey, I highly recommend listening to the original recordings of the great Tango masters such as Astor Piazzolla., Pugliese and Troilo”, comments.
Jofré is today one of the leaders of contemporary tango in New York and in the world for the originality of his compositions and for his particular interpretation of the bandoneon.. He has toured prestigious venues in the US with his music., Europe and Asia. This is the second time it will be presented at the CCK; in 2015 premiered his own work invited by the National Symphony Orchestra. On his last visit to Argentina in 2017 performed with his multicultural orchestra Hard Tango Chamber Band at the Usina del Arte in Buenos Aires, where he was praised live by Julio Pane: “you have managed to fill an empty space left by Astor”, expressed the legendary bandoneon player of Piazzolla.
The violinist Francisco Fullana, native of Palma de Mallorca, He has been praised and awarded internationally for his talent performing classical works. After graduating from the Juilliard School in New York, He began a growing career that led him to perform as a guest with important symphony orchestras. It has been named by BBC Music Magazine as one of the “emerging stars on the international scene”. Since 2018 is part of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York.

Juan Pablo Jofré
Juan Pablo Jofré is an Argentine musician and exponent of the bandoneon on the international Nuevo Tango scene.. His works have been recorded and performed by prestigious artists such as Paquito D' Rivera, Kathryn Stott y Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. He has been praised as one of the most important artists by Lincoln Center in New York and repeatedly highlighted by the New York Times.. Born in San Juan, Argentina, Juan Pablo studies double bass, composition and musical theories at the National University of San Juan (Prof. N. Castillo, H. Washed, R. Fernández) and then in Buenos Aires, with Julio Pane, world-renowned educator and bandoneon player of the legendary Astor Piazzolla Sextet. In 2004, with recommendation from the renowned musicians Mº Daniel Binelli, Mº J. Fontenla and Mº Pedro Ignacio Calderón, Jofré presents works by Bach and Piazzolla and wins the National Arts Fund Award.
In 2008 lives in New York, where the music of our country represents, being noted for his compositions and performances. In the United States he presents his music and offers workshops and masterclasses at the Juilliard School of Music, GOOGLE Talks, Carnegie Hall (NY), TEDx (Boston), Jordan Hall at the New England Conservatory and Miami University.
The Double A factory in Germany sponsors it with a new AA Bandoneón, with which he recorded his latest album Manifesto, which is later presented in Korea, Japan, China, Panama, U.S, Puerto Rico and Taiwan.
It has been commissioned by Belgian violinist and conductor Michael Guttman and is currently working on 2 commissions of orchestral compositions by clarinetist Seun-Ghee Lee and Metropolis Orchestra, San Antonio Chamber Orchestra y Baleares Island Symphony Orchestra.
In Argentina, Jofré has shared the stage with important instrumental tango performers. In 2014 premieres his Tanguistic Movements work in Buenos Aires with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Carlos Vieu and at the Mozarteum Argentino subsidiary San Juan, with the musicians Pablo Agri, Nicolas Ledesma, Patricio Villarejo and Javier Becerra. That year he received a musical commission from ballet star Herman Cornejo and wrote Trancendence., work for bandoneon solo that was premiered in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Russia. In 2015 performs at La Ballena Azul at the Kirchner Cultural Center in Buenos Aires with the National Symphony Orchestra and with Latin-Grammy Award winner Fernando Otero.
Francisco Fullana
The Spanish violinist Francisco Fullana, winner of the 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant, has been named by BBC Music Magazine as one of the “emerging stars on the international scene.” A great talent” (Gustavo Dudamel) Y “a virtuoso of sublime delicacy” (San Francisco Classical Voice). Born in Palma de Mallorca, Francisco combines his concert career around the world with his leadership in innovative educational projects. He has performed as a soloist in concerts with conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel., performing the Brahms concerto at the Sala Bolívar in Caracas, and the legendary Sir Colin Davis, under whose baton he played the Mendelssohn concerto with only 17 years with the Bayerische Philharmonie. He has been the guest soloist of orchestras such as the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, the RTVE orchestra and the Vancouver symphonies, Pacific, Alabama, Maryland and Community of Madrid among many others, under directors such as Adrian Leaper, Alondra de la Parra, Pablo Mielgo, Victor Pablo Perez, Christoph Poppen, Salvador Brotons, Josh Weilerstein, Alvaro Albiach, Elizabeth Schulze y Jeannette Sorrell.
Francisco is passionate about chamber music, participating in legendary festivals such as Marlboro Festival, organization with which he has also made several tours around the US. He has been a guest artist at festivals such as Music@Menlo, the Da Camera Society, Music in the Vineyards y Yellow Barn, collaborating with members of the Guarneri quartets, Juilliard, Cleveland, Pacifica and Takacs, and with artists like Mitsuko Uchida, Viviane Hagner, Marie Elizabeth Hecker and Nobuko Imai among others. Francisco collaborates regularly with the Argentine bandoneon player JP Jofre, with which he has premiered in Europe and America his new double concerto for violin and bandoneon commissioned by the Balearic Symphony, the Metropolis Ensemble of New York and the San Antonio Chamber Orchestra.
Francisco began studying the violin in his hometown with Bernat Pomar, pursuing his higher studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid with Manuel Guillén. He is a graduate of the Juilliard School in New York., where he studied with Donald Weilerstein and Masao Kawasaki. Later, He completed his Artis Diploma studies at USC with the violinist Midori.
Fullana is the winner of the Pro Musicis International Award in 2015, the same year he won First Prize at the Nagoya International Munetsugu Competition in Japan, where he also received all the special awards. At 2014 won First Prize at the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria. Other awards include first prizes in the “Pablo de Sarasate” National Competition and the “Julio Cardona” from Portugal. Among his awards is also the María Paula Alonso Foundation Award, with whom he regularly collaborates, making different musical and educational projects come true.
Francisco is also a leader in music education, through new innovative musical institutions. He is the founder of the Classical Music Institute in San Antonio and the Fortissimo Initiative, based on the promotion of meetings and seminars in collaboration with young orchestras from both sides of the Atlantic, focused on deepening the knowledge and interpretation of 18th century music with new generations of musicians.
