The fascination with a mechanism 4000 pieces, commitment to sounds tradition rioplatense and purpose of recovering a German industry bombed during World War II, are the pillars of local luthiers and manufacturers bandoneones that keep alive a small but tough market over time.

“He was enrolled in the School of Popular Music of Avellaneda and one day I saw an unarmed bandoneon which attracted me automatically: I remember thinking how nice it would be able manufacture”, Telam said Baltazar Estol, of 36 years, one of the few luthiers of the instrument in the country and today celebrates its National Day in honor of the birth of Aníbal Troilo.

I had already studied music as an autodidact, I had done a workshop for repairing guitars, had already begun to study popular music when 2007 he borrowed a bandoneon “open” a friend and, simply, grabbed pen, paper and began to study plans. In 2010, iron, steel, bronze, aluminum, zinc, wood, leather, screen, paperboard, cuerina, plastic, nacre and over 4000 pieces after, He finished his first bandoneon “100 percent functional I started to show musicians and at that time it was unusual to see a new instrument”.

The bandoneon was born in Germany in 1840 but only he arrived at the port of Buenos Aires in 1890. In 1907 in the city of Carsfeld, Germany, a factory that supplied not only bandoneon Rio de la Plata but throughout South America but was destroyed during World War II was installed.

A classic model made in the country is sold at US $ 6500 and takes two months of work.

“At that time they closed many factories and mass production stopped. Most instruments used today in tango, folklore, chamamé were manufactured until that time”, pointing Estol, part of the local scene, small and fragmented luthiers.

With a clientele, mostly, made up of professional musicians like Victor Lavallén, Ernesto Molina and Juanjo Mosalini, Estol specialized in a classic model of bandoneon “71 bi keys sound diatonic” which costs about 6500 dollars and demand will, at least, two months of work. Today is ahead 9 that will take charge until the end of 2020.
