Anniversary of the birth of "El Polaco" Goyeneche

the singer, a symbol of the neighborhood unquestioned Saavedra, died in 1994. His image is part of the local cultural heritage, whose memory is kept alive in different interventions of the public space.

This Wednesday 29 January marks a new anniversary of Roberto Goyeneche's birthday, who died in 1994, to the 68 year old.

Like the Club Atlético Platense, of which he was a fervent fan, Strictly speaking, the Pole lived -for a few blocks- beyond the formal boundaries of the neighborhood, in Melian at 3100, Coghlan, where his relatives still reside.

In the last hours, as reported by Saavedra Online, Pablo Ortiz Maldonado, member of the Commune 12, received relatives of the great singer, at the Holmberg community headquarters 2548. "We chatted about the cultural agenda of our Commune 12 and about projects to defend the neighborhood and cultural identity in our neighborhoods. Long live tango ”, expressed the community member of the Front of All. According to what this portal could know, Maldonado will present a project in the Buenos Aires Legislature to declare this date as Tango Singer Day.

The image of Roberto Goyeneche is present in Saavedra through numerous tributes. Since December 2004, one of the main avenues is named after him.

In front of the Sarmiento Park entrance, a statue personifies him leaning against the pole of a lantern. As reported by this portal, the piece was removed last week for restoration. A few meters, from a large sign welcomes those who enter the neighborhood on Avenida Balbín.

In August 2018, the Buenosairean government inaugurated the new Low Level Crossing of Ricardo Balbín avenue, the one who baptized “Goyeneche - Gatica”, in allusion to the boxer who lived in the area for a short period. There, just like in other parts of the neighborhood, there are murals that evoke the best performer of Naranjo en Flor, Malena and Garúa.

History tells that the Pole was born on 29 of January of 1926 in Superí and Tamborini. He was a driver of the Line 19, taxi driver and mechanic. He used to spend his free time in the missing bar La Sirena, by Núñez and Balbín. His ascending career as a singer began after winning, in 1944, a singing contest organized by the Argentine Federal Club.

With own style, his voice traveled the world as one of the great ambassadors of 2 × 4. El Polaco put his unique stamp on Anibal Troilo's orchestras, Horacio Salgán and Armando Pontier. He recorded with Raúl Garello, Astor Piazzolla and immortalized pieces by Atilio Stampone and Homero Manzi.
